An iron heart hung above a crackle glass shade and a set of chimes, so the piece works in two registers at once. By day it is a wind chime and a shape in the garden, catching light through the fractured glass. At night the solar lamp inside lights the shade from within and the crackle pattern scatters the glow across whatever it is hanging near.
The solar panel and battery are built in, so there is nothing to plug in and nothing to wire. It charges through the day and comes on by itself once the light drops. That makes it easy to move around as the garden changes, from a tree branch in summer to a porch hook in winter, without any of the constraints that come with a mains fitting.
